QP Summary – Thursday, December 10, 2009

The Olympic Torch passed through the House of Commons.

All parties focused extensively on the report and statements released by General Natynczyk concerning evidence of torture in Afghan prisons.

Other Liberal questions included:

  • Evidence of mistreatment in Afghanistan.
  • Revelations of Gen. Natynczyk
  • Cuts to NGO funding to repay the deficit.
  • Public pensions and a national supplemental CPP.

Other Bloc questions included:

  • Government’s involvement with the torture of Afghan prisoners
  • Canada’s obligations under the Geneva Convention.
  • GHG reduction targets, supporting Alberta’s interests to the detriment of the interests of Canada and Quebec.
  • Legal framework to make Canadian businesses accountable abroad (regarding Canadian mining company in Mexico).

Other NDP questions included:

  • Oil sands emissions and associated environmental and health risks.
  • Bonuses for CEOs of large banks
  • Aboriginal Healing Foundation funding past March 2010
